Cast: Manoj Bajpai, Rajkummar Rao – February 26
Aligarh is the real-life story of Dr. Shrinivas Ramachandra Siras. He was suspended by his University after he was caught by a TV channel while having sex with another man. He won the case and his suspension was revoked. However, he died six months before his suspension. He committed suicide or was murdered – police was not able to find substantial proof. However, gay relationships are still a taboo in India.
#2 Jai Gangaajal
Cast: Priyanka Chopra, Manav Kaul —March 4
Abha Mathur is the first female superintendent of Bankipur District in Bihar. She is forced to target corruption as well as violence induced by the local MLA. Jai Gangaajal is inspired by Durga Shakti Nagpal’s life. While Prakash Jha’s previous movie Satyagraha gave us a really bad migraine, the trailer of Jai Gangaajal looks promising.
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, Nargis Fakhri, and Huma Qureshi —May 13th
The movie is based on the life of Mohammad Azharuddin, the well known cricketer who was implicated in the year 2000 in a match-fixing scandal. Prachi Desai will portray Azharuddin’s first wife and Nargin Fakhri will play Sangeeta Bijlani’s role.
Cast: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda —May 20
This movie is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh—an Indian national who was labeled as a terrorist plus spy by the Pakistani Supreme Court. Later on he was sentenced to death. The sentence kept getting postponed for years, but Singh was assaulted by fellow prisoners and passed away in 2013. Randeep Hooda will play Sarbjit and Aishwarya Rai will play his sister.
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan, Farhan Akhter, Nawazuddin Siddiqui — July 8
It is a well known fact that Salman Khan releases his movie around Eid. However, this year his Sultan will be clashing with Shah Rukh Khan Raees. Raees is based on the life of a bootlegger, Abdul Latif Shaikh. The film also explores prohibition of alcohol and prostitution in Gujarat.

Cast: Sushant Singh Rajput, Kiara Advani, Herry Tangri, Anupam Kher, Bhoomika Chawla, Disha Patani — September 2
The much awaited movie of the year is based on the story of the cricketer, M.S. Dhoni. Dhoni was born and brought up in Ranchi. He was the goalkeeper for his football team. He was sent by his coach to play cricket. The cricket club were impressed by his wicket-keeping skills.

When we think of Haryana, we think of suppressed women and male domination. But meet Mahavir Singh Phogat, a professional wrestler and Olympics coach. He is also the coach and father of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumar. Geeta Phogat is the first woman from India to win a gold medal in 2010 Commonwealth games and first woman to be qualified for Olympics.
