Indian television has three genres that do really well – saas-bahu sagas, mythology and reality shows. Most the of reality shows such as Khatron Ke Khiladi, Indian Idol, Jhalak Dikhlaja and Bigg Boss are remake of popular US and UK TV Series. With So You Think You Can Dance ready to make its debut on Indian television, we have another reality show ready to woo Indian audience. But reality shows remakes are not the only ones that have conquered our hearts. These 5 remakes had different storyline and captured audience’s attention.
#1 Comedy Nights with Kapil
Our very own favorite Comedy Nights with Kapil is a remake of Kapoor at No. 42. The Kapoor at No. 42 is about a dysfunctional family where the son, Sanjeev Kapoor, interviews celebrities and his family (father, mother and grandmother) crack witty jokes.
#2 Jassi Jaisi Koi Nai
Imagine signing a contract with a television to live life of reel-persona in reality. Sounds like Truman Show but that was the life of Mona Singh. Jassi Jaisi Koi Nai was remake of popular show called Ugly Betty which was a remake of a Colombian TV show. Jassi is not beautiful but she is smart and hard working. Her pillars of strength are her papaji, beeji and best friend Nandu.
#3 Karishma Ka Karishma
One of our favorite shows while growing up, Karishma Ka Karishma is about a robot who is created by an engineer. The robot not only does household chores but also becomes family member. The show was remake of A Small Wonder. Not just the concept but also Karishma and Vicky’s dress were identical.
#4 Jeannie Aur Juju
Remake of popular US TV series I dream of Jeannie, Jeannie and Juju is about a pilot who stumbles upon a mysterious bottle. When he rubs the bottle; a jeannie appears and calls him Juju. The story revolves around Jeannie’s antics and Juju’s efforts to hide her. In the end, the two fall in love and marry.
#5 Movers and Shakers
Shekhar Suman’s Movers and Shakers was inspired from late-night talk show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The show covered the day’s highlights with a celebrity interview and live band. The set of the show was similar to the Jay Leno’s show.
